Was Angela Bassett Robbed At The Oscars??
For me Angela Bassett has been one of the most consistent successful and critically acclaimed black actresses in Hollywood for decades now. She has starred in some of the most important films of our time, including Malcolm X, What's Love Got to Do With It, and The Hurricane. Her performance as Ramonda in Black Panther was no exception; her portrayal of the Queen Mother was both regal and heartwarming.

Despite her undeniable talent, Bassett has never won an Oscar. This is particularly baffling when one considers that she was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her performance in What's Love Got to Do With It, and that her role in Black Panther was arguably even more impressive.
There is no simple answer to this question. On one hand, Angela Bassett's performance as Ramonda was absolutely stellar, and she deserved to be nominated for an Oscar. On the other hand, Jamie Lee Curtis' performance as Deirdre Beaubeirdre was also excellent & she was rewarded with the Oscar.

It is up to the Academy to decide who should win an Oscar, and they decided that Curtis was the better performer. That said, many people feel that Bassett was snubbed, and that she should have won the Oscar instead of Curtis.

But it may be time for the Academy to recognize Angela Bassett for her contributions to the world of cinema. She is a true icon, and her work in Black Panther is a testament to her talent and versatility.
